Paul Denham is a British citizen who has spent three decades imprisoned in California for a murder he has maintained he did not commit.

In March 1995, Edward “Eddie” Weinmann was shot dead while driving on a Los Angeles freeway. Paul was convicted in 1998 and sentenced to life without parole, despite the case against him being circumstantial and no eyewitness placing him at the scene.

​

Paul was around 350 miles away in San Francisco when the murder occurred. Petrol receipts support his journey, while no passenger record shows that he flew back to Los Angeles. Medical evidence also confirms that Paul had a fractured hand immobilised by a splint at the time—an injury that would have made it next to impossible for him to carry out a moving, car-to-car, precision shooting.

Serious questions have since emerged about prosecution evidence.

• A handwriting expert concluded that flight details found in Paul’s home were written not by Paul, but by a principal investigating officer. COPIES BELOW

• Paul’s lawyer also says a leaked document records that the same former officer later removed this evidence from the police station before being ordered to return it.

• The airport parking ticket relied upon by investigators was reportedly ten years out of date.

Paul’s legal team and supporters are not asking the public to ignore the conviction. They are asking for the troubling evidence to be examined openly, fairly and independently. After decades behind bars, Paul deserves a review—and the opportunity to prove that the wrong man was convicted.
